Roblox Real Money Sales Payouts to be Based on a Sliding Scale
Roblox, the popular online game platform, is gearing up to allow developers to sell their games for real money in the near future. This move is aimed at encouraging more developers to create games on the platform. Currently, games on Roblox that are set as paid access titles require players to use Robux, the platform’s digital currency, to purchase them.
Robux is used for various transactions on Roblox, similar to how V-Bucks are used in Fortnite. However, Roblox recently announced at its annual developer conference that it wants to give developers more freedom to earn money from their creations. While developers can already make money through the platform, the process involves converting sales into Robux, with developers receiving a 70% cut and Roblox taking the remaining 30%.
Under the new model, developers will be paid based on a sliding scale depending on the price of their games. For games priced at $10 and above, developers will receive 70% of the revenue. Games priced at $5-$9.99 will result in a 60% payout, while games priced below $5 will yield a 50% payout. This incentivizes developers to create higher-quality games with higher price tags, benefiting both the developers and Roblox.
Roblox Will Accept Local Currencies Later This Year
While there are currently no games on Roblox that cost real money, the platform has outlined plans for accepting real money payments in the future. The company has not specified an exact timeline for this change but has indicated that it will happen later this year. Once real money payments are enabled, players will be able to use their local currencies to make purchases on the platform, initially on PC with plans to expand to other platforms like Android and iOS.
By introducing real money sales, Roblox aims to attract more users and increase sales of gaming content on the platform. The company is targeting 300 million daily active users and hopes that the introduction of real money payments will lead to a 10% increase in global gaming content sales through Roblox.
