Meta Unveils Vision for Horizon OS Redesign
At the recent Connect event, Meta offered a glimpse into what it envisions as "the future of Horizon OS," showcasing a concept that represents a significant departure from its current design. The Horizon OS, previously known as the Quest system software, has maintained a consistent interface since the launch of the Meta Quest Pro in 2022. This continuity can be traced back to the gradual evolution of the interface that first appeared with the Oculus Go in 2018.
The proposed redesign introduces a completely revamped user interface characterized by a more streamlined and simplified approach. The system menu, now referred to as the "navigator," features a subtle faded white overlay that enhances the user experience. Prominently displayed are Horizon Worlds destinations, allowing users to easily access their preferred environments. Additionally, the Library tab has been refined to showcase only the six most recently used applications, with an option to expand for further access.
While the concept presented at Connect is visually striking, Meta has yet to provide any indication of a timeline for the rollout of this new Horizon OS interface. As it stands, the redesign remains a vision, leaving enthusiasts and developers alike eager for further updates on its development.
