NCSoft Invests in Moon Rover Games to Boost Global Expansion

01 Aug 2024

Korean gaming powerhouse NCSoft has made a significant move by investing $5 million in the Swedish development studio Moon Rover Games. Founded in 2022 by industry veterans from DICE, Moon Rover is currently focused on an ambitious co-op first-person shooter titled Project Aldous.

Strategic Partnership for Innovation

Julien Wera, CEO of Moon Rover Games, expressed enthusiasm about the investment, stating, “This investment represents a milestone in the history of Moon Rover Games. It will enable us to combine the experience and ambitions of our team with the vast knowledge of NCSoft in the development and operations of online games, to bring new gameplay experiences to players around the world.”

NCSoft's co-CEO, Byungmoo Park, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the strategic nature of the partnership. “In our search to forge new business opportunities, we are actively exploring studios with specialized genre expertise and strong development capabilities. Moon Rover Games stands out with its profound experience in the FPS genre and innovative approaches,” he remarked.

Park further elaborated on the potential impact of Project Aldous, noting, “This project will enhance NCSoft’s game portfolio both in terms of genre diversity and regional reach. We’re confident that partnering with Moon Rover Games will contribute to our global expansion and strategy to develop robust game development clusters.”
