When checking for updates on one of my devices enrolled in the Release Preview Channel, I noticed that Windows 11 24H2 isn’t showing up, even with the toggle to get the latest updates turned on. Microsoft has quietly confirmed that it yanked Windows 11 24H2 from the Release Preview Channel, citing potential performance issues as the reason for the pause in the rollout.
“We are temporarily pausing the rollout of Windows 11, version 24H2 to the Release Preview Channel,” Microsoft noted in an update to the original blog post on June 7. The company added that they will resume the rollout in the coming weeks without providing further details.
When asked for more information, Microsoft redirected inquiries to the blog post, but user posts in the Feedback Hub shed light on the problems encountered with Windows 11 24H2.
Windows 11 24H2 is Facing Bugs
After Microsoft shipped the update to everyone in the Release Preview Channel, users upgrading from Windows 11 23H2 to Windows 11 24H2 began encountering a RunDLL error pop-up. The error message indicates a missing entry related to the Program Compatibility Assistant Service (PCA Service), causing issues for many users.
While Microsoft is aware of the error and working on a fix, the rollout of Windows 11 24H2 has been paused in the Release Preview Channel. Users have reported various issues, including:
- Persistent wallpaper warnings
- Freezing in apps like Word and Notion
- Game crashes on Steam after installing the update
Despite the setbacks, Windows 11 24H2 is still expected to roll out to everyone in September or October. In the meantime, users can join the Dev Channel to test preview builds, but should be aware of potential stability issues.
