Google Translate Enhances App With AI and Language Practice

27 Aug 2025

Google has unveiled a significant update for its Translate mobile application, which is set to enhance the experience for users around the globe. This update, powered by Gemini, introduces a tailor-made language practice feature and improvements in real-time translation, promising to provide a more interactive and efficient language learning tool.

New Features in Practice Mode

The latest addition to Google Translate's functionalities is the innovative "practice" mode, which allows users to tailor their learning journey according to their skill level—be it Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced. Users can set personal learning goals, and the app generates practice sessions that adapt in real-time as their language skills progress.

This mode is designed to offer two forms of practice: listening and speaking. In listening mode, users can tap on words they hear from an AI narration, effectively bolstering their comprehension skills. Meanwhile, speaking practice mode allows users to repeat phrases aloud with the assistance of hints if necessary, creating an interactive learning environment. This dedicated practice feature is currently rolling out in beta for Android and iOS users this week.

Enhancements in Real-Time Translation

Furthermore, Google Translate's live translation capability is undergoing a substantial upgrade, thanks to the integration of Google’s latest AI models. Now, when users engage the live translation feature, they can select the languages spoken and the app will display and voice translations seamlessly. This AI enhancement not only increases the speed and quality of translations but also intelligently switches between languages spoken by two parties, minimizing misunderstandings during conversations.

The improved live translate function will be gradually introduced starting August 27 in key markets, including the United States, Mexico, and India. This expansion aims to provide users in these regions with superior translation accuracy and speed, reflecting Google’s commitment to leveraging AI technology for enhanced user experiences.

With these advancements, Google Translate is set to redefine how users interact with language technology, offering more immersive and personalized language learning and translation services.
