Google has announced a significant update for its Google Photos app, emphasizing enhanced creativity with the introduction of its new Veo 3 video generation model. Announced on September 4, 2025, this upgrade focuses on transforming still images into vibrant six-second video clips, now with noticeably improved quality.
As part of this upgrade, Google is rolling out a new Create tab within the Google Photos app. This tab serves as a creative hub, centralizing various tools that cater to users' artistic preferences and allowing easy access to new features. The revamped photo-to-video function operates alongside a new collection of options that include Remix, featuring styles like anime, comic, sketch, and 3D animation.
Highlight videos represent another innovative addition, automatically assembling clips based on simple search queries such as "Mom" or "Paris." The Create tab also houses capabilities to develop collages, Cinematic photos, and Animations. Google's objective appears to be simplifying the creative process for users, encouraging them to experiment with different artistic formats.
Using the New Features
To create a video, users simply need to navigate to the Create tab, select a photo, and choose between two options: Subtle movement for a more nuanced effect or I’m feeling lucky for automatic enhancements. Notably, the number of daily content generations is limited, although subscribers enjoy higher quotas to explore their creative impulses further.
Currently, these newly unveiled features are available exclusively to U.S. users. While there is no confirmed timeline for an international rollout, Google's commitment to expanding these capabilities globally remains undeterred.
