Fitbit Launches Dark Mode and AI Tools in New Android Update

27 Aug 2025

The latest Android app update from Fitbit, now at version 4.50, delivers a much-anticipated feature: Dark Mode. For years, users have requested this functionality, and Fitbit has finally responded. By allowing users to switch to Dark Mode manually via the app settings or automatically following their device’s system preferences, Fitbit aims to enhance the user experience, especially for those who frequently engage with their health metrics in low-light situations. Beyond aesthetic appeal, Dark Mode is particularly beneficial on OLED displays, potentially conserving battery life—a crucial advantage for wearable tech users deeply invested in continuous health monitoring.

As with any initial rollout, there are caveats. Some components may not fully render in the new theme immediately, but the majority of the interface supports this dark transformation. Users can expect remaining inconsistencies to be addressed in forthcoming patches. The gradual release began on August 21, as reported by Derrek Lee from Android Central, with the feature set to become widely available shortly.

Exploring New AI Tools

In addition to the visual enhancements, Fitbit has begun testing innovative AI-driven tools from Fitbit Labs, powered by their Gemini platform. Two noteworthy experiments are included: an AI lab report summary tool and a Symptom Checker. The former aims to demystify medical data, converting complex lab results into plain language insights that are easily digestible. Meanwhile, the Symptom Checker allows users to articulate discomfort in layman's terms, subsequently providing them with tailored recommendations such as taking rest, increasing fluid intake, or knowing when to consult a healthcare professional.

Although these AI features are in the experimental phase and should not replace professional medical consultations, they underscore Fitbit's commitment to making health data more accessible and actionable for its users.

Overall, these enhancements signal Fitbit's dual commitment to refining user interaction with its app and empowering users with smart, personalized support. By focusing on comfort and clarity, Fitbit continues to pioneer in the digital health space, ensuring that its technological advancements cater to modern needs and behaviors.
