The Google Search app is poised to introduce an innovative feature known as “Search Recall.” As its name suggests, this functionality allows users to effortlessly recall their most recent search and repeat the query with ease.

How does the Search Recall feature in Google app work?

In the midst of launching the Pixel 9 series and unveiling various Generative Artificial Intelligence capabilities, Google is also refining its Search app to maintain its position as the leading search engine. The addition of Search Recall aims to enhance and streamline the Google Search experience on smartphones, currently available exclusively within the Android OS ecosystem.

Recent findings from an APK teardown of the Google app version 15.34.32.29.arm64 beta by Android Authority revealed a new floating popup shortcut. This pop-up activates when users conduct a search through the Google app, but it is also functional from the search bar. Google diligently tracks user search queries, and with the Search Recall feature, it focuses solely on the most recent query. When users open the app or access the search bar, a rounded popup displays the last search query, providing a convenient reminder.

Users have the option to either accept the suggestion or dismiss it with a simple tap. The pop-up remains visible for a few seconds, ensuring it does not obstruct or hinder the user experience.

How to get the new feature and repeat the last query?

Currently, the Search Recall feature is only available in the beta version of the Google app. The pop-up for the search bar can be accessed directly from the Pixel Launcher’s home screen. However, Google has placed the Search Recall feature under experimental flags, meaning users will need to manually activate it.

To utilize this feature, users must ensure they are using the latest beta version of the Google app, which may not be entirely stable. The practicality of the Search Recall pop-up is evident, particularly for multitaskers who frequently perform multiple searches, allowing them to quickly revisit their last query. Given its utility, it is highly likely that Google will incorporate the Search Recall feature into an upcoming stable release of the Google app.
