Netflix and Nickelodeon Release SpongeBob: Bubble Pop Puzzle Game

Netflix and Nickelodeon Collaborate on SpongeBob: Bubble Pop

Netflix Games and Nickelodeon’s latest collaboration is live now with the release of SpongeBob: Bubble Pop, taking us down to Bikini Bottom for, hopefully, a good time. This new match-3 bubble-busting puzzler might be simple fare, but for fans of the absorbent, yellow and porous undersea dweller – or their kids – it’s going to be a welcome addition to the Netflix lineup.

It’s no surprise that Nickelodeon and Netflix are so eager to bring SpongeBob to players either. Not only is the hit animated series created by Stephen Hillenburg available on the service, but the recently released Sandy Cheeks movie is also exclusive to the streaming catalogue.

Gameplay and Features

Gameplay-wise, Bubble Pop Fun isn’t anything to write home about, and it looks to be a perfectly competent mixture of match-3 and bubble-popping gameplay. However, one saving grace will likely be the utter lack of microtransactions, thanks to the Netflix Games service being a subscription inclusion.

Players will be able to unlock a whole variety of costumes and abilities for SpongeBob, adding a layer of customization and fun to the experience. This feature is sure to keep fans engaged as they progress through the game.

A Nostalgic Dive

It’s always weird looking at SpongeBob and remembering how it seemed to have peaked in popularity when I was a kid, only to realize it’s been going nigh-on a quarter-century and doesn’t show any signs of shrinking. For some, it may be overstaying its welcome (especially in the wake of creator Stephen Hillenburg’s death), but at the same time, you can’t exactly blame Nickelodeon, or Netflix, for wanting to capitalize on its continued popularity.

But there’s a whole world of games out there, and if you’re worried about where to get started why not try out some of the games on our list of the top 25 free-to-play games on iOS and Android?
