Fading Club, the developer known for its surreal horror games, has announced Psychopomp 2, promising exciting changes and improvements in gameplay style. The sequel to the popular game shifts to a third-person perspective, introducing a new protagonist and expanded environments.
Changes in Gameplay
The original Psychopomp, known for its grid-based, first-person dungeon-crawler mechanics akin to Legend of Grimrock, captivated players with its unique art style and challenging survival horror dynamics. Psychopomp 2 takes a different approach by shifting to a third-person camera and offering movement free from grid constraints. This shift signals a significant evolution in gameplay, providing players with a mix of claustrophobic dungeons and open areas, including a settlement.
The game maintains Fading Club's distinct visual aesthetic, blending anime characters with vaporwave ruins and body horror elements. The new protagonist, a waifish anime boy, adds a fresh perspective to the narrative, further intriguing fans of the series.
Release Expectations
Despite the promising features, no release date for Psychopomp 2 has been announced yet. The original Psychopomp released a substantial free demo in January 2024, suggesting a similar approach might be employed for the sequel to bolster anticipation and feedback.
Fading Club's continued dedication to innovative game design is evident in their development choices, positioning Psychopomp 2 as a title to watch for both existing fans and newcomers to the genre.
