In a rapidly evolving landscape of gaming, Bigfire Games’ latest project, Cinder City, sets ambitions high as it gears up for a 2026 launch. This sci-fi third-person shooter stands out with its robust multiplayer features and colossal mech battles. Published by NCSoft, known for their established MMO expertise, Cinder City promises to merge dynamic gameplay with community-driven experiences.
Expansive Worlds and Intense Gameplay
The game is designed to captivate players with two expansive locations, each stretching over seven square kilometers. These outdoor terrains form a shared open world, capable of hosting exceptionally large groups of players, reminiscent of traditional MMO environments but infused with shooter dynamics.
Cinder City also features instanced dungeons that cater to smaller, more tactical teams of four to six players. CEO of Bigfire, James Bae, while discussing the project at Gamescom, highlighted the depth of the multiplayer dimensions, noting that playtests have successfully accommodated 150–200 players simultaneously. This scalability affirms the game’s promise of supporting hundreds of players in interconnected spaces, rethinking the boundaries of multiplayer experiences.
Character and Vehicle Innovation
Cinder City offers players a choice of nine unique heroes at launch, each with their own narrative arcs, enriching the single-player experience within the multiplayer framework. One such character tested is named Seven, a baseline super-soldier that balances between a normal to extreme spectrum, providing diverse gameplay styles.
Moreover, vehicle mechanics, including combat-ready bikes and helicopters, add layers of strategy and excitement to player interactions, aligning with Bigfire’s vision of delivering a comprehensive and compelling gameplay experience.
Balancing Act of Community and Challenge
Emphasizing non-scripted AI, NPCs in Cinder City adapt fluidly to environmental contexts, providing a more organic and challenging experience. This innovation speaks to Bigfire’s ambition to cultivate a community atmosphere within a shooter game format.
