Catalyst Update Set to Transform Runescape Gameplay

16 Sep 2025

Runescape enthusiasts are ushering in a new era of gameplay complexity and excitement with the introduction of the highly anticipated event: Leagues: Catalyst. This transformative endeavor draws inspiration from the award-winning OSRS Leagues, promising radical changes with its approach to skill progression and challenges.

Leagues: Catalyst Features

Under the unique ruleset of Leagues: Catalyst, players are thrust into a world where the conventional dynamics of trading and microtransactions are redefined. Trading at the Grand Exchange is disabled, and daily Treasure Hunter quests are conspicuously absent. This means adventurers must adopt fresh strategies to excel.

The adventure begins in the iconic town of Lumbridge, where League-specific worlds challenge players to start anew with a fresh character. The Leagues Sage stands ready to introduce newcomers to this revamped mode. Core progression revolves around completing distinct tasks that span across all skills. These tasks reward players with League Points, contingent on the challenge level, ranging from an attainable 10 points for easier tasks to an impressive 400 for master-level endeavors.

Points amassed enable players to unlock various relics spanning seven tiers. A player’s choice becomes critical in shaping their journey, selecting one relic per tier. Early tier relics offer intriguing benefits such as the Animal Wrangler, enhancing catch rates for fishing and hunting, the Divine Woodcutter that synergizes woodcutting with Divination, and the advantageous Excavator for mining and archaeology.

High Stake Rewards

As participants reach the pinnacle of League progress, they gain access to tier seven relics, which unleash formidable powers. Notable among these is Everlasting Faith, offering not just reduced damage while prayers are active, but also the invaluable abilities of revival at full hit points and a removal of prayer drain. The most dedicated players will vie for top-tier rewards — a dazzling new outfit, overrides for tools including the iconic catalyst staff, and coveted Leagues trophies ranging from bronze to dragon tier.

Bringing competition and camaraderie, Leagues: Catalyst runs from September 15 to November 10, offering a dedicated League-focused membership option until September 21 for $21.99 / £15.99. This limited offering steeply contrasts with the typical one-month membership fee of $13.99 / £9.99, underscoring the unique, temporary access it provides.

In sum, Runescape's Leagues: Catalyst is more than an event; it is a catalyst for creativity, strategic gameplay, and a celebration of dedication. Players worldwide are gearing up for what promises to be one of the most exciting chapters in the game's history.
