Fatshark's new Hive Scum class in Darktide, initially a powerful ranged combatant, has seen its ranged abilities adjusted before release.
Adjustments to Abilities
The standout ability, Enhanced Desperado, now features a cooldown increase from 30 to 45 seconds and reduced prolong mechanics. Despite these changes, it remains potent. Hive Scum’s gunslinger aspect transformed significantly, as initial previews showcased immunity to ranged attacks and unlimited ammo while using Dual Stub Pistols.
Balance in Melee
Beyond ranged skills, Hive Scum excels in melee combat. It uses Rampage!, Adrenaline Frenzy, and enhanced dodges, supported by Stimm Supply and Chem Toxin. Each class member can use a Stimm Lab tree offering effects like Kalma and Spur. These skills, once fully upgraded, normally have a 44-second cooldown. Stimm Supply can provide recoil effects team-wide by dropping a Medicrate.
Cosmetics and Style
Cosmetically, Hive Scum offers aesthetics linked to different gangs: Water Cartel, Tread Lightlies, Iron Riders, and The Show. Though functional, the similar paint jobs leave the cosmetics lacking distinctive flair. While Hive Scum demonstrates strong build potential, balancing changes aim to prevent power creep.
