Embark Studios has clarified its matchmaking approach for 'Arc Raiders,' opting not to use 'gear score' systems at this time. Instead, the focus remains on balancing games between solo players and squads.
Matchmaking Focus and Strategy
The early rumors of a loot-based matchmaking system caused significant concern among players. Some even considered avoiding the game if such a system were implemented. However, Embark Studios, represented by Ossen, announced that they aim to maintain a distinct separation between solos and squads, to promote fairness in gameplay.
During the beta testing phase, teamwork within squads—enabled by proximity chat—presented a sizable advantage over solo players. Squads could coordinate strategies more effectively, while solo players persevered on their own.
Future Adjustments and Considerations
While gear-based matchmaking is not in use now, the idea hasn't been completely dismissed. Embark Studios plans to observe the dynamics after the game’s release and may adjust systems accordingly. All changes will aim to provide varied and engaging yet fair gaming experiences.
Ossen emphasized the commitment of the development team to ensure high-quality gameplay. This approach aligns with their goal to keep each round interesting but balanced, catering to all types of players.
