Linux Foundation Fosters AI Agents with New Open Standards

10 Dec 2025

The Linux Foundation has announced the formation of the Artificial Intelligence Agents Framework (AAIF) aimed at advancing communication and interoperability among AI agents across various platforms. This initiative brings together tech giants such as Google, OpenAI, and Cloudflare, promoting open-source projects and best practices.

New Collaborative Efforts

Anthropic, a founder member of AAIF, contributed the Model Context Protocol (MCP), enabling models to interface with tools and data seamlessly. Block added to these efforts with Goose, an open-source framework designed to support large-scale agent collaboration. According to Brad Axen from Block, this framework has the potential to compete with proprietary systems.

Shared Safety and Standards

The AAIF initiative is steered towards creating shared safety standards and ensuring the interoperability of AI solutions. Members, including AWS, Bloomberg, and Google, are collaborating on these objectives. OpenAI introduced AGENTS.md, a standardized instruction file to maintain consistent behaviors across coding tools.

Implications and Future Steps

Jim Zemlin, Executive Director of the Linux Foundation, noted that AAIF’s creation marks a step towards eliminating proprietary barriers, fostering real-world interoperability among AI agents. These open standards, such as MCP and Goose, are envisioned as global connectors for models, tools, and applications, potentially revolutionizing workflows by enabling seamless integration between disparate AI systems.
