Broken Arrow RTS has been grappling with faction balance issues since its launch in June, as reported by developer Steel Balalaika. The company released metrics indicating a consistent 7% win rate disparity between factions.
Balance Analysis and Numbers
The Russian forces have achieved a 53.66% win rate against the USA's 46.34%, considering the entire ELO range with the exception of mirror matches. Steel Balalaika shared that this imbalance was evident across player levels, although the USA edges forward at higher ELOs for a small player segment.
The developer, which began as a small team of ten, has expanded post-launch to enhance the game with new units and balance adjustments. Internal metrics showed all Russian faction options outperforming their American counterparts in terms of popularity and win rates.
Gameplay Enhancements with Allied Bots
To address balance concerns and improve the gaming experience, Steel Balalaika is introducing allied bots, designed to offer consistent team support while adapting to game dynamics. This feature is currently in final testing, anticipating deployment as a custom lobby option.
The studio has emphasized that the balance issues have been their non-technical focal point, and player feedback was instrumental in driving recent adjustments. These updates based on data insights are expected to refine gameplay while setting a course for the game's future development.
