FromSoftware Navigates Evolving Landscape in Game Development Industry

Hidetaka Miyazaki Talks Future Plans for FromSoftware

FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki recently shared some insights in an interview with The Guardian, shedding light on the company’s future direction. While much attention has been placed on his self-deprecating remarks about his own gaming skills, Miyazaki also discussed the evolving landscape of game development.

“Budgets, scale, scope, everything has grown to a point where room for failure isn’t tolerated as much as I think it was in the past,” Miyazaki noted, highlighting a trend that has impacted the industry’s development processes and workforce.

Despite partnering with publishing giants like Bandai Namco, Sony, and Activision to mitigate financial risks, FromSoftware remains cautious about the challenges posed by the industry’s changing dynamics.

While Elden Ring’s development timeline was notably lengthy, Shadow of the Erdtrees was delivered at a faster pace, hinting at the studio’s ability to adapt to varying project demands. Miyazaki’s penchant for teasing fans with ambiguous statements about game sizes adds an element of mystery to FromSoftware’s future endeavors.

With Miyazaki’s track record of surprising fans with unexpected twists and turns, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that FromSoftware could unveil an even grander project than Elden Ring in the future.
