Bethesda Addresses Player Concerns Over Starfield Creation Add-On Content

18 Jun 2024

In response to the recent controversy surrounding the release of a Starfield mission as part of the game’s new Creations program, Bethesda executive producer Todd Howard has acknowledged the feedback from unhappy players. Howard stated that the studio will review how they deliver content in future releases to address player concerns.

Player Concerns Over Paid Mission

A recent update introduced a new mission in the Starfield Creation Kit, allowing players to join the Trackers Alliance faction as bounty hunters. However, the second Trackers Alliance mission, The Vulture, is only available as a paid add-on costing , which has sparked criticism from players. The pricing of the mission has drawn unfavorable comparisons to the Starfield premium edition upgrade, leading to a decline in Steam user reviews.

Howard explained that Bethesda’s intention with The Vulture was to provide additional content by offering a unique quest with the Trackers Alliance outfit and weapon. However, players perceived the mission as a way to monetize the faction, which was not the studio’s intention. Howard emphasized that Bethesda is open to adjusting pricing and content delivery based on community feedback.

Supporting Content Creators

Despite the backlash, Howard highlighted the importance of supporting content creators and enabling them to monetize their work through platforms like the Creation Club. He emphasized the need to maintain a healthy modding community and ensure that creators are rewarded for their contributions.

While the controversy surrounding The Vulture has raised concerns among players, Bethesda remains committed to fostering a positive modding community and providing a variety of free and paid content options for players. The studio will continue to evaluate feedback and make adjustments to improve the overall player experience in future releases.
