CD Projekt Sells GOG to Co-Founder for $25.2M

31 Dec 2025

CD Projekt has sold the digital gaming storefront GOG to its original co-founder, Michal Kicinski, for $25.2 million USD. This move allows CD Projekt to sharpen its focus on developing new video games.

GOG's Emphasis on Preservation

GOG, founded in 2008, is renowned for providing a DRM-free gaming experience and hosting classic titles such as Baldur's Gate 3 and Tomb Raider. It launched the GOG Preservation Program in 2024, aiming to restore and make older games playable on current hardware. This initiative includes games like Alpha Protocol.

CD Projekt's Strategic Shift

The sale of GOG enables CD Projekt to refocus on its core business of developing high-quality RPGs. The company plans to concentrate its efforts on major projects such as The Witcher 4, which centers around the character Ciri, and other multiplayer expansions. While CD Projekt will decrease its direct involvement in GOG, it will continue to release its new games on the platform.

Future Prospects for GOG

GOG and CD Projekt executives have portrayed the transfer as a collaborative decision, rather than one driven by financial difficulties. With plans for a promising 2025, this change offers an opportunity for GOG to further develop its platform and service under its original leadership.
