Larian Studios has announced that the innovative armor system from Divinity: Original Sin 2 will not be featured in future titles. This change affects the dynamics that distinguished the tactical role-playing game.
Unique Armor Mechanics
The groundbreaking system in Divinity: Original Sin 2 featured distinct physical and magic armor bars. This complexity added depth to combat, with armor depletion enabling crowd control effects. Both physical and magical attacks had to target their specific armor type before impacting a character's health.
Gameplay Dynamics
The system demanded an aggressive, strategic approach, where players were encouraged to strip enemy defenses swiftly. Various character classes like rogues and warriors became vital for both damage output and battlefield control. Despite some limitations, such as forced playstyles and limited non-combat interactions, it allowed considerable tactical variety.
Future Innovations
Although Larian does not intend to retain this specific armor system, the studio is known for its inventive mechanics. While fans may initially miss the D:OS2 system, many anticipate new and equally engaging innovations in future projects.
