Two new free games based on the Half-Life franchise are now available on Steam, offering fresh experiences for fans. Both games, Half-Life Legacy and Half-Life Arena, originated as mods and have been fully developed into standalone games available for download.
Half-Life Legacy Features
Half-Life Legacy, developed by The Phoenix Project, is a meticulous remake and enhancement of the original 1998 Half-Life game. Released this month, it celebrates the series with faithful restorations, using the HL25 engine. Players will find several updates including dynamic weapon lighting, new Steam achievements, and an autojump option, alongside other improvements. The game has been well received, with a 90% approval rating from 359 users.
Half-Life Arena Offers New Gameplay
Half-Life Arena transforms the classic Deathmatch mode into an intense multiplayer experience. Developed by Dark Vector, it features new maps, weapons, and bot support, enriching the gameplay with modern quality-of-life features inspired by the PS2 head-to-head mode. It has also garnered positive feedback, achieving a 93% approval rating on Steam. Both games have uncertain support for the Steam Deck.
The release of these games provides players with exciting new ways to experience the Half-Life universe, bridging the gap between nostalgia and modern gaming enhancements.
