Team Cherry, the developer behind Silksong, announced they might not participate in The Game Awards despite the game's nomination for Game of the Year. Developer Ari Gibson mentioned that the game is divisive, appealing to some players while frustrating others.
Team's Decision and Outlook
Fellow developer William Pellen cited time constraints as a reason for possibly missing the ceremony. He expressed confidence that the team wouldn’t need to prepare an acceptance speech this year. According to Gibson, the team feels at ease as they believe Expedition 33, another notable game, has a broader appeal.
Gameplay and Reception
Silksong has sparked mixed reactions due to its difficulty level. PC Gamer awarded it a 90 but described the experience as a "Sisyphean exercise." Expedition 33, with a story mode and difficult challenges confined to optional boss fights, aims to be more accessible. Both games focus on parrying, but Silksong has no easy mode, offering many challenging parries.
