Schell Games has launched Project Freefall, a cross-platform battle royale skydiving tag game available for early access starting on 2023-10-21. The game debuted a playable demo during Steam Next Fest.
Gameplay Mechanics
In Project Freefall, eight players leap from a plane to compete midair, aiming to hold a single backpack. Players utilize a combination of arm-mounted thrusters and independent grappling hooks for movement. The game's dynamic environment includes giant obstacles and power-ups like paint grenades and melee items, promoting skillful navigation.
The developers have ensured that both VR (first-person) and non-VR (third-person) experiences are balanced. Supported platforms include the Steam Deck and Meta Quest, providing players with diverse gameplay perspectives.
Additional Features and Accessibility
Project Freefall offers a small boost when players grab the backpack, which helps maintain fluid gameplay. Cosmetics can be acquired through a skin shop using in-game currency, enhancing player personalization.
The game is designed with crossplay capability from the start, enabling a seamless gaming experience across different hardware. This accessibility aims to attract a broad audience, offering a novel twist on the battle royale genre with a focus on aerial tactics and strategy.
