Netmarble's Solo Leveling: Arise has been re-released as Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive, revamping the game's mechanics and removing controversial gacha elements. Previously criticized for aggressive monetization, the updated version now allows players to earn Hunters and weapons entirely through in-game play.
Removal of Gacha and Monetization
The overhaul aims to eliminate reliance on randomness: recruiting Hunters and crafting weapons no longer involve gacha mechanics. Players, including those handling Sung Jinwoo, can progress without financial transactions. Previously, the game faced criticism for flash sales interrupting gameplay, costly subscriptions, and low drop rates for vital items. This shift hopes to reward strategy and effort, aligning with player feedback.
Release and Player Reception
Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive launched on Steam on 2024-YY-MM, with a retail price of $39.99/£34.99. The relaunch attracted over 10,000 players, receiving approximately 75% positive reviews. While players commend the removal of aggressive monetization, concerns linger regarding the always-online requirement and anti-cheat measures. Netmarble is reportedly developing a solution to enable offline play.
