Timberborn, a beaver-themed city builder by Mechanistry, is nearing its 1.0 release after four years in early access. While no specific release date has been confirmed, an experimental build is currently available for testing.
New Features and Mechanics
The updated version of Timberborn introduces innovative map objects and mechanics. Notable additions include aquifers and geothermal fields, enabled through technologies like geothermal engines and aquifer drills. These mechanics aim to enrich gameplay by offering new strategies for expansion.
Two fresh maps, Pressure and Oasis, have been unveiled. Pressure features underground water sources that require strategic management, while Oasis challenges players to rejuvenate a wasteland using aquifers.
Design Enhancements
Graphics have received significant updates: skyboxes have been refreshed, adding light glare effects to fluids. New architectural options such as spiral staircases and customizable city banners enhance visual appeal. Furthermore, the game now includes new beaver death animations, adding a layer of realism.
Testing and Future Release
Mechanistry has emphasized the need for extensive testing due to the breadth of content changes, explaining the lack of a firm release date for version 1.0. By engaging players in the current experimental build, Mechanistry aims to refine the new features before final launch.
