Microsoft has effectively addressed notable issues impacting NDI streaming software on Windows 10 and Windows 11 after users reported significant performance drawbacks linked to the August 2025 security updates. Users of popular streaming platforms, including OBS and the NDI Tools suite, noted increased incidents of severe stuttering, lag, and disrupted audio/video experience subsequent to these updates.
Understanding the Issue
The core of the problem lay in the disruptions within the Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP), where NDI traffic would inexplicably drop, specifically under RUDP connections. Interestingly, users employing either UDP or Single-TCP connections observed no such performance hinderances, offering clues toward resolving these challenges.
Both Microsoft and the NDI team collaborated to handle the mishap promptly, confirming the root cause of the performance issues and identifying the specific dependencies affected by the August release. The problems reported encompassed more technical glitches following the cumulative updates, like WSUS-related failures after KB5063878 and recovery operation issues that Microsoft pledges have been rectified in proposed successive patches.
A Responsive Solution
To alleviate these technical frustrations, Microsoft rolled out a resolution as part of the September 9, 2025 update, designated as KB5065429. This update aims to wholly rectify the NDI streaming obstacles and alleviate users from implementing temporary workaround measures previously recommended.
Prior to Microsoft's permanent fix, NDI suggested a practical interim solution. They encouraged users to shift the NDI Receive Mode settings away from the affected RUDP towards either TCP or UDP protocols. This was attainable by utilizing the free NDI Tools and navigating the configuration within the NDI Access Manager’s Advanced tab.
