Krafton announced two alpha playtests for Black Budget, a spinoff game by PUBG Corporation, set to take place on Steam in December 2023. This event will introduce players to a unique extraction shooter experience, blending exploration and discovery on a mysterious island called Coli.
Game Features and Mechanics
The game is set on Coli, a 2.5x2.5 km island trapped in a time loop and influenced by a supernatural force known as the Anomaly. Players navigate through player-versus-player-versus-environment (PvPvE) scenarios, discovering classified technology and secrets linked to the SAPIENS initiative.
Matches last around 30 minutes, allowing squads of up to three players against up to 45 real opponents and numerous AI threats. Between rounds, players can enhance their abilities, craft items, and develop a personal base. The Anomaly, a shrinking purple field, shapes gameplay by limiting the playable area, reminiscent of battle royale features.
Playtest Details and Participation
Krafton has planned two alpha playtests for Black Budget, open from 2023-12-12 to 2023-12-14 and 2023-12-19 to 2023-12-21. These tests offer unrestricted access, permitting capture and live streaming by participants, which deviates from their usual NDA restrictions.
Through playtests, participants can engage with missions from three distinct factions, earning reputation rewards. The playtest feedback aims to refine game mechanics and player interaction strategies.
The release of Black Budget reflects Krafton's ambition to expand beyond traditional survival games, offering a fresh twist on the extraction shooter genre. The insights gained from these alpha sessions will shape the game's final version, expected to enhance the engaging narrative and dynamic gameplay.
