The developers of Battlefield 6 have implemented a stricter policy against XP farm servers in the Portal mode, aiming to promote a more balanced progression system. This move impacts server owners and players by shifting the focus towards player-versus-player (PvP) gameplay.
Portal Mode Adjustments
In Battlefield 6, the trend of using XP farms in Portal mode has faced new restrictions. Battlefield Studios reports that player activity is shifting from player-versus-environment (PvE) to PvP servers. The game’s Verified experiences are now aligned with PvP gameplay, offering full XP rewards. Server owners need to unpublish and disable 'Bot Backfill' to publish experiences that allow full progression. Unverified servers will continue to provide reduced XP regardless of bot use.
Progression Changes Impact
Previously, Battlefield Studios reduced XP gains in certain Portal experiences. The developer believes these measures preserve creative freedom while maintaining progression balance. According to Electronic Arts, challenges were initially too difficult and slowed progression, pushing players towards XP farms. Now, EA is focusing on updating these challenges to prevent the reliance on farming tactics.
Player Reactions and Game Health
The crackdown has received mixed reactions. Some players welcome the effort to foster a healthier competitive environment. However, those with limited playtime express frustration, as XP farms provided a faster means to unlock weapons and attachments. EA continues to seek a balance between accessibility and competitive integrity in Battlefield 6.
