Hypixel Studios is planning to introduce controller support for Hytale, though it isn't a priority yet. The game remains optimized for PC gamers. Currently, players can employ Steam workarounds to use controllers.
Future Controller Integration
Simon Collins-Laflamme, founder of Hypixel Studios, emphasized the game’s PC-first design, stating, "We don't even support controllers yet." However, technical director Kevin "Slikey" Carstens noted that controller functionality is next on the studio’s roadmap with a focus on accessibility, aimed at making Hytale playable on the Steam Deck.
While controller support is highlighted on their development path, the timing remains unclear as a formal roadmap has not been announced. The future build is expected to feature cross-platform play along with this support.
Current Steam Workarounds
- Open Steam and click "Add a Game," then select the Hytale Launcher as a non-Steam game.
- Run Hytale through Steam and access "Controller Settings" via the Steam overlay.
- Choose a community layout for an optimal controller experience. Using the highest-rated layout circumvents some challenges.
Although these methods allow gamepad use, manual navigation through menus may still require a mouse, necessitating some adaptation from the player.
