Halo Studios has confirmed that Halo: Campaign Evolved, a comprehensive Unreal Engine 5 remake of the original Halo campaign, will launch in 2026. This release will be available on Steam and the Xbox app, with day-one accessibility on PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate.
Enhanced Features and Gameplay
The development team has rebuilt nearly every level and encounter to meet modern gaming expectations while preserving the original aesthetic. New gameplay elements include optional sprinting, weapon pickups such as the Energy Sword, and vehicle hijacking and piloting. Up to four players can collaborate in co-op mode, exploring three additional prequel missions.
Key enhancements focus on wayfinding, diverse enemy encounters, and a revamped The Library level to improve pacing and storytelling. The inclusion of new Guilty Spark lines aims to guide players without altering the core narrative, while the UE5 visual updates blend seamlessly with older code.
Release and Technical Considerations
The 2026 release promises more Skull modifiers than previous campaigns, extending player customization. However, developers have expressed concerns around redesign extent, engine performance, and the use of generative AI, which remains an optional tool rather than a necessity.
