Microsoft to End Support for Windows 11 24H2 by 2026

06 Jan 2026

Microsoft plans to end support for key products, including Windows 11 24H2 and Office 2021, by 2026. This is set to impact users globally as they transition to newer versions.

Upcoming End Dates

Windows 11 24H2, released on 2024-10-01, will no longer receive updates after 2026-10-04. Users will be prompted to upgrade to Windows 11 25H2, which shares its platform with 24H2 to ensure a seamless transition.

Office 2021, including its LTSC versions for Mac and Windows, will also reach its end-of-support date on 2026-10-13. Users will have the option to move to Office 2024 or subscribe to Microsoft 365. Office 2024 will enjoy support through to 2029-10-09.

Expanded Product Impact

Other products affected include .NET 9 and .NET 8 (LTS), both losing support on 2026-11-10. Support for PowerShell 7.4 (LTS) will conclude on the same date. Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 will see the end of ESU Year 3 support on 2026-10-13.

  • Windows 11 23H2 consumer support ended in November 2025.
  • Windows 11 25H2 will retain the existing codebase of 24H2.
  • Post-support, products will not receive updates or patches.

Microsoft encourages users to schedule their upgrades ahead of these crucial dates to maintain support continuity and security standards.
