Funcom's latest update for Dune Awakening, an expansive survival MMO set on the treacherous desert planet of Arrakis, brings ease to an often unforgiving gameplay element. By introducing a vehicle recovery system in patch 1.2.10.0, the developers aim to soften the blow of losing vehicles to the planet's many dangers.
A New Lease on Vehicle Lifespan
The arrival of patch 1.2.10.0 means that players can now breathe a slight sigh of relief knowing that their treasured vehicular assets aren't gone for good when devoured by the infamous sandworms or lost in coriolis storms. With the updated Vehicle Backup Tool, players gain access to a Recovery mode that allows them to reclaim rides that would have otherwise been a permanent loss.
Retrieving a vehicle isn't free of cost or consequence. To utilize this lifeline, players must pay a Solari fee, the in-game currency. In addition, there is a trade-off in the form of durability loss. Each recovery results in a 15% decrease in the vehicle's maximum repairable durability, a price to pay for preventing complete loss. Nonetheless, vehicles come back fully repaired and fueled, providing an incentive to rely on the system in dire situations.
Three Days to Claim
A crucial element of this new recovery mechanism is time sensitivity. Vehicles eligible for recovery must be claimed within a tight 72-hour window from the time of loss. After this period, they will no longer be reclaimable, akin to previous permanent losses. Players can earmark up to five vehicles for recovery, adding a layer of strategy to which vehicles they choose to prioritize and safeguard.
This system serves not only to mitigate the risks posed by Arrakis's natural dangers like sandworms but also to address technical issues. Players previously plagued by bugs or lag, resulting in unfair vehicle losses, will find the adjustments provide a fairer gaming experience.
Through these changes, Funcom has demonstrated a commitment to balance challenge and fairness, ensuring that the harsh realities of Dune Awakening continue to engage players without discouraging them with unmanageable setbacks. As players navigate the hazardous expanses of Arrakis, the reassurance that recovery is possible might make their journey a little bit less daunting, encouraging exploration and risk-taking—a hallmark of any good survival game.
