Escape From Tarkov launched on Steam on 2025-11-15, leaving beta after eight years. Initial excitement was dampened by severe login and server issues, frustrating many players who subsequently left negative reviews on the platform.
Launch Week Challenges
According to Director Buyanov, the first week of Tarkov's Steam release acted as a 'stress test' for both their systems and the developers' resilience. Despite the difficulties, Buyanov appreciated witnessing players enjoy the game, alleviating some of the team's stress. Server instability during peak demand highlighted areas for improvement.
Plans for Content and Fixes
In response to launch issues, the team will focus on improvements and fixes over the coming months. Upcoming updates include winter content, new storyline quests, events, and a seasonal character system. Buyanov noted some technical problems can be resolved swiftly.
Controversy arose as existing owners expressed dissatisfaction about repurchasing the game on Steam. These players retain access through the Battlestate launcher, allowing them to avoid additional costs.
Future Content and Events
Buyanov refrained from detailing the anticipated Scav Life DLC, but confirmed the traditional New Year TarkovTV event for December. Two time-limited in-game codes accompanied this announcement, offering additional engagement incentives.
