KusoDungeon Name Error Boosts Game Awareness

31 Oct 2025

Turin-based developer Paolo Nicoletti released a demo titled "KusoDungeon" on Japanese Steam due to a localization mishap. The name, which translates to "Shitty Dungeon," inadvertently drew significant attention.

Localization Mishap and Impact

The title's mistaken localization occurred with the help of machine translation and quickly spread among gaming communities. Nicoletti, who operates the studio Fix-a-Bug, witnessed a surge in wishlists and sales as a result of the unexpected name.

Players found amusement in the error, enjoying the game's goofy humor and nostalgic appeal. Despite its accidental origin, the catchy name played a role in the climb in popularity.

Game Availability and Developer Response

After noticing the localization error, Nicoletti swiftly corrected the title. "Kuso Dungeon" soon reverted to its intended name, "The Crazy Hyper-Dungeon Chronicles," on the Steam platform.

Nicolette humorously referred to the incident as "the 'Shitty Dungeon Incident'." He noted that although the title brought unintended fame, it became a memorable, if awkward, moment in the game's launch history.
