11 bit studios, the developers of Frostpunk 2, have issued hotfix 1.4.2 to address unexpected crash issues affecting players with very large settlements. This update comes as a reaction to cities growing beyond the design expectations within the game's sandbox mode.
Crash and Performance Fixes
The root of the crashes was identified as the game engine’s “UObject limit” being exceeded. This limit defines how many objects the game engine can manage simultaneously. Players expanding cities under sandbox settings encountered crashes, which resulted in a specific error message indicating the problem.
- Frostpunk 2 hotfix released for crash issues.
- Large settlements exceeded the engine's UObject limit .
- Error: "Maximum number of UObjects exceeded."
Manual Workaround Available
For affected players who have high-end systems, 11 bit studios has provided a temporary solution. Tweaks can be made by adjusting the 'Engine.ini' file located in the game's AppData folder to raise the object limit. Caution is advised, noting this should be the last resort due to potential risks to system performance.
- Patch notes include manual file adjustments.
- Players should monitor PC memory usage.
Additional Issue Resolutions
Besides the crash fixes, hotfix 1.4.2 also resolves several other issues, including non-responsive economy overlays, missing tooltips, and startup problems in chapter five. These fixes enhance gameplay stability and ensure smoother user experiences moving forward.
