Morefun Studios, the creator of the highly anticipated game Arena Breakout Infinite, has announced the removal of the Koen currency ahead of its full release on Steam. The decision was driven by the studio's commitment to ensuring a more equitable gaming environment for all players, focusing on skill and strategy rather than financial advantage.
Shifting Away from Pay-to-Win
The Koen currency previously allowed players to bypass the grind typically required to obtain top-tier weapons by purchasing them directly. This system was viewed as providing an unfair advantage to paying players, as it enabled them to secure premium equipment, which could be lost after defeat in the game's extraction-based missions. Despite the potential risk of losing purchased gear upon being defeated, the fast-track element of Koen clashed with the core ethos of skill and perseverance that the game aims to promote.
In a statement shared on X, Morefun Studios commented, "In its early phase, the purchasing Koen system offered some players a fast track to restart and recover — a purpose it has now fulfilled. Therefore, with the Full Release, we have decided to officially bring it to an end, shifting our focus entirely toward more diverse, fair, and rewarding ways for players to earn resources."
Enhancements for a Fairer Experience
Beyond removing Koen, Morefun Studios plans several enhancements ahead of the game's Steam launch. Improvements will include an upgraded matchmaking system, providing players with a more balanced competitive landscape. Additionally, the introduction of a kill cam feature will give players vital insights into their in-game deaths, adding a strategic learning element.
Aiming to enhance user experience further, the studio is automating certain game functions like healing and storing loot. An expanded trophy room will soon feature modules designed to empower characters even outside raid scenarios, diversifying the strategic elements available to players.
Maintaining Free-to-Play Integrity
While microtransactions will remain a part of Arena Breakout Infinite, the focus is shifting away from financial shortcuts. Morefun Studios intends to feature microtransactions that are cosmetic in nature, preserving the free-to-play model without compromising on the fairness and competitive spirit the game is designed to uphold.
The game is scheduled for a full release on Steam on Monday, September 15, 2025, marking a significant step in its evolution. Players can look forward to a fairer playing field, where success is determined by skill and strategy rather than the depth of players' wallets.
