Xbox Full Screen Experience (XFSE) is now available for Windows handhelds, enhancing the gaming interface with a streamlined, console-like user experience.
Setup and Activation
To activate XFSE on a Windows handheld, users must update to Windows 11 version 25H2 via Windows Update. After installation, users need to enable the Full Screen Experience in the Gaming settings. This setup allows the handheld to boot directly into XFSE, providing easy access to Xbox services and Game Pass.
Alternatives and Custom Launchers
If XFSE has not yet rolled out to your device, there are open-source alternatives that mimic its features. Community tools and third-party launchers, such as Playnite, also allow for a full-screen, game-focused interface right from startup.
Performance and Features
XFSE optimizes the Windows handheld gaming experience by reducing background processes and offering seamless controller navigation. It supports quick task switching and integrates Xbox services, potentially improving gaming performance. It was initially rolled out on 2025-11-21, and availability is expected to expand gradually.
