Windows 11 introduces an Emergency Restart feature designed for situations when a computer is unresponsive despite attempts to regain control. Users can access this function through a specific sequence of commands.
Accessing Emergency Restart
The Emergency Restart feature can be activated by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del on your keyboard. Once the security options screen appears, hold down the Ctrl key and click the power button located in the bottom-right corner of the screen. A confirmation dialog will warn users about the loss of unsaved data before proceeding.
Benefits Over Hard Reset
This method serves as an alternative to a hard reset, providing a safer option for trouble-shooting when the system is frozen, and the traditional power button is inaccessible, such as on laptops without one. This method has been tested on both desktops and laptops with no reported issues.
Additional Restart Option
Alternatively, users can run "shutdown /r" in the Command Prompt to restart their system. This command also effectively reboots the machine without requiring a hardware intervention.
