Grey State Unveils a Lovecraftian Extraction Shooter

15 Oct 2025

Grey State Studio, a subsidiary of Tencent Games, is developing a novel extraction shooter titled Rules of Engagement: The Grey State. The game promises a unique blend of horror and tactical shooter elements, set to launch in 2026.

Game Features and Mechanics

The game, described as a 'horrorverse', includes elements of the popular games Escape From Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown, enriched by horror crossover mechanics reminiscent of Dead by Daylight. Players will navigate the Grey State, a mysterious dimension, battling creatures inspired by horror films, novels, and creepypasta lore.

Gameplay and Classes

Players will take on the role of 'Striders', elite operatives exploring the eerie Grey State. They will engage in PvPvE matches against monstrous entities and unravel arcane secrets while racing to extraction zones. The game will feature four classes at launch, including Pyro, Phantom, and Sledge, with one more to be unveiled.

Release and Availability

Expected to be available for free on Steam, Rules of Engagement: The Grey State is already available to wishlist. Grey State Studio plans an alpha test showcasing its varied classes and mechanics. As the game's release approaches, players can prepare for an immersive experience in a world filled with legendary horror tropes.
