The action role-playing game (ARPG) Last Epoch will be self-published by Eleventh Hour Games (EHG) despite prior near-collaboration with Skystone Games. Renowned ARPG developer David Brevik explained that Skystone Games had almost secured a publishing deal before EHG chose to self-publish. Brevik praised EHG's strong team dynamic.
Publishing Path and Growth
EHG CEO Judd Cobler revealed that after self-publishing, the company faced funding challenges and examined several paths. Joining forces with Krafton became a viable option after considering partnerships or risking bankruptcy. Cobler noted that Krafton's resources provide an opportunity for greater competition in the market.
Concerns regarding Krafton's AI ambitions sparked discussions among fans. However, Cobler assured that EHG remains committed to hiring individuals with deep genre knowledge, emphasizing strategic growth without compromising their vision.
Ongoing Development
As EHG progresses, the company is gearing up for Last Epoch's first expansion, Orobyss. This move underlines their commitment to growing and innovating within the ARPG genre. The effectiveness of EHG's decisions will likely become clearer as they continue to build on Last Epoch's foundation.
