Warhorse Studios is delving into Unreal Engine for upcoming projects, pivoting from its previous use of CryEngine, notably for Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
Job Listings Indicate Engine Change
Over the past year, Warhorse has released several job listings seeking candidates with experience in various Unreal Engine components such as animation blueprints and physics-based animations. These listings appeared on tech-artists.org and are associated with Jakub Holík, the studio's tech operations lead.
Warhorse’s Unreal Commitment
Although Warhorse Studios has not confirmed whether a new Kingdom Come Deliverance title will utilize Unreal, their shift in recruitment strategies suggests a robust interest in the engine. The studio seems keen on exploring different settings and possibly developing multiple projects simultaneously.
Community manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling indicated that while Henry’s narrative may be concluded, the Kingdom Come Deliverance intellectual property still offers various opportunities for expansion.
Potential Impact on Future Projects
The decision to potentially transition to Unreal Engine highlights Warhorse’s intent to innovate in RPG development. Despite their successful track record with CryEngine, adopting a new engine could enable the creation of immersive worlds with diverse settings and gameplay experiences.
