On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Windows has announced significant accessibility updates designed to cater to diverse needs as of 2025. These enhancements are the result of direct feedback from disability communities, ensuring technology evolves alongside user requirements.
New Accessibility Features
Windows has introduced a Fluid Dictation feature that intelligently corrects grammar, punctuation, and spelling in real-time during dictation. This tool integrates custom vocabulary and operates on Copilot+ PCs across various applications. Users can activate Fluid Dictation through Voice Access settings or press Windows+H in the Windows Insider program.
Improvements to the Voice Access tool now include a customizable wait time before commands are executed, a personal word dictionary, and support for speech patterns, including those affected by Parkinson’s disease. The tool accommodates multiple languages, featuring new support for both Chinese and Japanese.
Enhanced Narrator and Magnifier
For visually impaired users, Narrator and Magnifier, developed with Azure AI, offer new HD voices for a more engaging and less cognitively demanding experience. These tools provide improved document navigation and reading, especially when creating or reviewing content with Word. The updates ensure smoother handling of tables, footnotes, and formatting changes.
Narrator also integrates more tightly with Word by enhancing proofing announcements and comment navigation while ensuring compatibility with Copilot. Privacy-centric features like the Screen Curtain and richer image descriptions enhance user security and accessibility.
