Bazzite emerges as a gaming-centric operating system that provides an alternative to Windows 10. While it caters well to Steam users, it falls short in supporting creative applications and certain game services.
Installation and Interface
Installing Bazzite was straightforward, taking only a few hours. The system boots into an interface similar to Steam's Big Picture mode, allowing navigation without a mouse. Despite its gaming focus, the interface is intuitive, resembling a traditional desktop. However, some apps, like browsers, may not scale well on unconventional monitors like 5:4 displays.
Gaming Experience
Bazzite supports gaming primarily through Steam and utilizes the Heroic Launcher to run games from GOG and Epic Games. However, Xbox Game Pass is not supported. Some titles with anti-cheat mechanisms are incompatible with Linux, limiting options for players. AMD GPUs are recommended for better compatibility, although NVIDIA support lags.
Limitations and Recommendations
The system doesn’t support the Adobe suite, necessitating another setup for creative tasks. Dual-booting with Windows is advised for those relying on Game Pass. While Bazzite thrives as a secondary OS for gaming, it’s not a full Windows replacement.
