AMD Unveils FSR 3.1 for Enhanced Sony PlayStation Studios PC Games

27 Jun 2024

AMD has been actively promoting its FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) technology for PC games, and the latest version, FSR 3.1, has just been announced. This new version is now supported by five current Sony PlayStation Studios PC games, with more on the way.

FSR not only enhances graphics but also boosts frame rates for supported games, working seamlessly with AMD Radeon GPUs as well as other graphics chips from competing companies.

New Features and Improvements in FSR 3.1

In a recent blog post, AMD detailed the new features and improvements in FSR 3.1:

  • Upscaling image quality improvements:
    • Enhanced temporal stability, reducing flickering and shimmering.
    • Improved ghosting reduction and detail preservation.
  • Enhanced frame generation:
    • Decoupled frame generation technology that integrates well with other upscaling solutions.
  • Upgradable FSR API:
    • Streamlined upgrades for developers to future FSR versions.
  • Developer Support:
    • Added support for Vulkan and Xbox Game Development Kit (GDK).

Initial Games Supporting FSR 3.1

The initial five PC games to support AMD FSR 3.1 are all from Sony’s PlayStation Studios:

  1. Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
  2. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  3. Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition
  4. Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut
  5. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

AMD has also released a video showcasing the enhancements in FSR 3.1 for the PC version of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart compared to its previous version, FSR 2.2. The upcoming PC version of God of War Ragnarök will also support FSR 3.1.

Broader Adoption of FSR Technology

Furthermore, the older FSR 3 version is currently supported in several recently released PC games like Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II and Still Wakes the Deep. Upcoming PC games set to include FSR 3 are:

  • Concord
  • Creatures of Ava
  • Dungeon Stalkers
  • Farming Simulator 25
  • inZOI
  • Nobody Wants to Die
  • Preserve
  • The First Descendant

The introduction of FSR 3.1 marks a significant milestone for AMD and its collaboration with Sony PlayStation Studios, promising an enhanced gaming experience for PC gamers worldwide.
