June 2024 Non-Security Update for Windows 11: A Closer Look

Windows 11 users have a lot to look forward to with the June 2024 non-security update. This update introduces several new features aimed at enhancing user experience and productivity.

Game Pass Recommendation Card

One of the most exciting additions is the new Game Pass recommendation card on the Settings home page. This feature is available for both Home and Pro editions when you sign in using your Microsoft account. If you're an avid gamer, this card will appear, offering personalized game recommendations based on your gaming activity.

Show Desktop Button

The show desktop button makes a comeback on the taskbar by default. For those who prefer a different setup, you can easily change this by right-clicking the taskbar and navigating to Taskbar settings. At the bottom of the page, you'll find Taskbar behaviors, where you can customize your preferences.

File Explorer Enhancements

This update also brings significant changes to File Explorer. Users can now create 7-Zip and Tape Archive (TAR) files directly from the context menu. Right-clicking a file and selecting "Compress to" offers various compression tools like gzip and bzip2. Additionally, a new compression wizard in Additional options helps you choose formats and add details. You can also adjust compression levels and select data types for each archive.

Emoji 15.1 Support

Windows 11 now supports Emoji 15.1, including Unicode symbol-like shapes for family groupings, although people will still be used for these emojis. New additions include:

  • Horizontal and vertical head shake
  • Phoenix
  • Lime
  • Brown mushroom
  • Broken chain

You can also choose the right or left-facing direction for some people emojis, adding more customization to your digital expressions.

File Copying Made Easier

A new Copy button has been added to the Windows Share window, simplifying the process of copying files. Just click the button to copy files quickly and efficiently.

New Account Manager on Start Menu

The update also starts rolling out a new account manager on the Start menu. When you sign in with a Microsoft account, you can easily view your account benefits and manage settings at a glance.

KB5039302: Addressing Key Issues

The KB5039302 update addresses several issues affecting Windows 11 users:

  1. Snipping Tool: Fixes audio distortions when recording videos on some PCs.
  2. Touch Keyboard: Resolves issues with entering special characters using the Japanese 106 keyboard.
  3. USB Devices: Fixes problems with ejecting USB devices using the Safely Remove Hardware option when Task Manager is open.

To get KB5039302, open the Settings app, click “Windows Update,” toggle on the “Get the latest updates as soon as they are available” option, and check for available updates. Alternatively, you can download a manual install package from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Windows 10 users are not left out either, with a slew of fixes and improvements in KB5039299. If you're still on Microsoft's previous-gen operating system, make sure to check out what's new.
