Star Wars Jedi Series Reaches 40 Million Gamers, New Installment in Works

19 Sep 2024

Financial Success and Player Engagement

In a recent update shared with shareholders, Laura Miele, the president of Electronic Arts’ Entertainment and Technology divisions, revealed that the Star Wars Jedi series has captivated over 40 million gamers since its inception in 2019. This impressive milestone underscores the franchise’s enduring appeal and the successful integration of beloved cinematic lore into interactive experiences.

Miele highlighted that the Star Wars games have collectively generated more than $3 billion in net bookings. This substantial figure reflects not only the initial sales but also the ongoing engagement and recurrent spending typical of the gaming industry. Titles such as The Old Republic MMO, DICE’s Battlefront series, and Galaxy of Heroes have likely contributed significantly to this financial success, showcasing the diverse offerings within the Star Wars gaming universe.

Looking ahead, Miele confirmed that Respawn Entertainment is diligently working on a new installment in the Jedi franchise, which aims to conclude the current storyline. This development is eagerly anticipated by fans who have followed the journey since the release of Jedi Fallen Order in November 2019. That title made a remarkable impact, attracting over 20 million players by June 2021, a testament to its strong launch and positive reception.

As for the latest addition, Jedi Survivor, while EA has been more reserved with performance metrics, the game has reportedly been played by “millions” of users. Given the strong foundation laid by its predecessor, it is reasonable to assume that Jedi Survivor is performing on par with Fallen Order, further solidifying the franchise’s place in the hearts of players and its significance in the gaming market.
