In a recent YouTube update, Inflexion Games’ CEO Aaron Flynn and art and audio director Neil Thomson provided an unvarnished look at the current state of their gaslamp fantasy survival game, Nightingale. The pair openly expressed their dissatisfaction with the game’s performance, acknowledging concerns regarding player sentiment and engagement. Flynn’s candid remarks set a tone of accountability, as he stated, “We are not satisfied with where the game is at, we’re not satisfied with the overall sentiment, we’re not satisfied with our player numbers.”
Progress and Improvements
Since Nightingale’s early access launch in February, the studio has been proactive in addressing feedback from the community. Flynn highlighted the introduction of a much-anticipated single-player mode, along with various quality-of-life enhancements aimed at refining the overall gameplay experience. While the game’s Steam rating currently hovers around “Mixed,” recent reviews have shown a notable improvement, trending towards “Mostly Positive.”
With foundational updates underway, Inflexion has shifted its focus toward enhancing the gameplay structure. Thomson noted that Nightingale had previously been “almost too open world, too self-motivated in terms of goal-setting.” To remedy this, the team is implementing clearer communication regarding player progression, guiding users on what objectives to pursue and what they can achieve along the way.
Building Dreams
One of the most exciting developments for players is the significant increase in building limits, allowing for more expansive and creative constructions. Previously, players faced restrictions on the size of their structures, but Thomson revealed that the new build limits represent a “multiple-time increase.” This change aims to empower players to craft more imaginative and expressive estates, a key element in any survival game.
As the video concluded, Flynn expressed his “extreme confidence” in the direction Inflexion is taking Nightingale, with Thomson affirming that the studio is committed to delivering “Nightingale, but better.” With an update anticipated later this summer, players can look forward to a revitalized experience that aligns with both community feedback and the studio’s vision.
