Microsoft Unveils Prism Emulation Engine, Partners with Anti-Cheat Providers

20 Jun 2024

In a significant stride towards enhancing the gaming experience on Arm-based PCs, Microsoft has unveiled the Prism emulation engine. This innovative technology aims to bridge the gap between the prevalent x86 and x64 game architectures and the Arm64 instruction set, ensuring that popular games can run seamlessly on Windows 11 Arm-based PCs.

The Prism emulation engine is designed to handle the heavy lifting of code conversion, allowing developers to focus on game development without worrying about compatibility issues. To showcase its capabilities, Microsoft released video clips of Baldur’s Gate 3 running smoothly on a Copilot+ PC equipped with the latest Snapdragon X Elite chip, DirectX 11, and Prism. The results are promising, with the game delivering impressive performance and stability.

Collaboration with Anti-Cheat Providers

Ensuring a fair and enjoyable multiplayer gaming experience is paramount, and Microsoft has taken proactive steps in this direction. By collaborating with leading anti-cheat providers such as BattlEye, Denuvo Anti-Cheat, and Wellbia XIGNCODE3 / UNCHEATER, Microsoft guarantees that popular multiplayer titles like Fortnite are supported on Copilot+ PCs.

This collaboration is crucial because these games will not launch unless the anti-cheat service is active and available. According to an official statement, Copilot+ PCs now support over 1400 popular games, with 1200 titles capable of running at 30+ FPS on these new machines. This ensures that gamers can enjoy a vast library of titles without compromising on performance or security.

Printer and Peripheral Support

For users concerned about peripheral compatibility, Microsoft has addressed these issues comprehensively. Windows 11 Arm-based PCs now support all Morpia-certified printers, which encompasses a staggering 120 million printers worldwide. This means users can print documents without worrying about compatibility issues.

Peripheral support extends beyond printers. As long as the necessary drivers are present in Windows 11 or provided by manufacturers, peripherals should function without any hitches. However, it is essential for manufacturers to release the Arm64 version of their product drivers to ensure seamless integration and functionality.

With these advancements, Microsoft is not only enhancing the gaming landscape for Arm-based PC users but also ensuring that everyday tasks and peripheral usage remain hassle-free. The combination of the Prism emulation engine, strategic collaborations with anti-cheat providers, and robust printer and peripheral support marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Windows 11 Arm-based PCs.
