Technical Specifications and Performance Insights
Ubisoft has recently lifted the review embargo for its highly anticipated title, Star Wars: Outlaws. In light of this, we are excited to share a selection of stunning 4K screenshots captured from the PC version of the game, which was run on an NVIDIA RTX 4090 at Ultra settings, showcasing all available Ray Tracing effects.
To achieve these impressive visuals, we utilized a robust setup featuring an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D processor, complemented by 32GB of DDR5 RAM clocked at 6000MHz, alongside the powerful NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090. The operating system used was Windows 10 64-bit, with the GeForce 560.94 WHQL driver installed. Notably, we disabled the second CCD on the 7950X3D for optimal performance during our tests.
Interestingly, Star Wars: Outlaws does not include a built-in benchmark tool, a departure from Ubisoft’s previous titles such as Avatar, which featured such functionality. Instead, we opted to use the bustling first city area of the game for our performance benchmarks. This vibrant locale is populated with numerous NPCs, providing a solid indication of the game’s demands on both CPU and GPU resources.
The PC version of Star Wars: Outlaws supports an array of advanced graphical features, including ray-traced shadows, reflections, and NVIDIA’s RTXDI technology. This innovative feature intelligently determines the most critical light samples in a scene, rendering them with physical accuracy. Additionally, players have the option to adjust the quality of the Ray Tracing BVH, and the game is compatible with DLSS 3, enhancing performance further.
It is important to note that we do not have Before/After comparison screenshots at this time, as the PC version remains a work in progress. Ubisoft has indicated that they plan to implement additional improvements through a day-one patch. Due to my upcoming vacation from August 27th to September 1st, a comprehensive day-one PC Performance Analysis will not be available until my return. However, the current screenshots provide a glimpse into the game’s performance at 4K resolution on the NVIDIA RTX 4090 with all Ray Tracing effects enabled.
In our review build, performance metrics align well with other titles employing multiple Ray Tracing effects. Achieving frame rates between 75fps and 100fps at 4K/Ultra/Ray Tracing settings required the use of DLSS 3 in Quality Mode alongside Frame Generation. This performance is consistent with our experiences in other Ray Tracing-enabled games.
For those curious about the technical aspects, the review build incorporated Denuvo anti-tamper technology, with the executable file exceeding 500MB. Fortunately, I did not encounter any stuttering issues during gameplay, at least within the confines of the initial major city. A more thorough evaluation will be conducted in the final version, particularly in more expansive open-world environments. Nevertheless, initial impressions are promising.
Star Wars: Outlaws is set to launch on August 30th, and we look forward to sharing more insights as the release date approaches.
