In Monster Hunter Wilds, tests reveal excessive DLC checks impact CPU performance on PC. A mod enhances gameplay by blocking unnecessary queries.
Performance Impact in Hub Areas
Tests conducted by Digital Foundry identified that DLC checks were significantly affecting CPU load, particularly around Support Desk felyne DLC menus. The tests used a Ryzen 5 3600 and an RTX 4060 Ti. Results showed the "Less DLC Checks" mod improved frame rates by up to 25.6% on various settings when these checks were blocked.
The most noticeable performance improvements were seen in hub or base camp areas where excessive runtime DLC queries occur. When close to a Support Desk felyne with an active DLC notification, these checks were triggered, impacting performance.
Mod as a Temporary Solution
Although purchasing additional DLC doesn't alleviate the performance issues, the "Less DLC Checks" mod offers a temporary fix. It blocks the problematic runtime requests, leading to a smoother gameplay experience. Capcom should address the underlying problem, as the mod is not a complete solution for all performance concerns.
PC players experience varying performance, with or without the mod, underscoring the need for a broader optimization of Monster Hunter Wilds.
